New Life for Timeless Art (Tokyo National Museum)

An exhibition commemorating 30 years of the Sumitomo Foundation restoration grant.

The Sumitomo Foundation has been engaged in many projects to restore cultural properties, but this is an exhibition introducing the results.

At the venue, many Buddhist statues, gods and Noh masks that were restored and regained their beautiful appearance were exhibited.

The wooden Kokuzo Bodhisattva statue in Ryumonji in Fukushima Prefecture was greatly damaged by the 2011 tsunami, but fortunately it was restored to its original form.

The importance of the restoration project was clear and understandable by comparing the disparate photographs before restoration with the dignified appearance after restoration.
